Who is Inter-Tel?

Inter-Tel is/was an award-winning telecommunications manufacturer and service provider with a network of company-owned direct sales offices, and independent dealers, in North America and Europe. The company was founded in 1969, and is/was based in Tempe AZ. It has/had annual sales of about $400 million, and employs/employed about 2,000 people.

AbleComm has serviced Inter-Tel systems on a limited basis since about 1985. In January 2006 we made a commitment to become a certified Inter-Tel dealer, and we established this specialized website. Although we are a major seller of Panasonic and NEC phone systems, we feel that the Mitel/Inter-Tel 3000 system is much easier to install, and is ideal for many of our do-it-yourself customers.

  • In 2000, Inter-Tel purchased Executone, a maker of phone systems and intercoms, that had previously taken over another phone system manufacturer, Isoetec.
  • In April 2007, it was announced that Inter-Tel would be purchased by phone system maker Mitel, for $732 million. The deal was accepted by Inter-Tel stockholders in August 2007. In 2008 the Inter-Tel name started fading away, as Mitel became the brand as well as the company name. We expect to keep the Inter-Tel name on this website at least for awhile.
Executone had been located in Milford CT, ironically just a few miles from AbleComm's headquarters.
The Inter-Tel EncoreCX phone system (now the Mitel 3000) is manufactured in Ireland. It is sold in the UK by British Telecom ("BT") as the "Versatility" phone system. BT has extremely high standards, like AT&T in the old days. Their endorsement of the system is an important vote of confidence.
